Sometime ago someone posted a link to a site that simulated what rings would look like from Earth if we were a ringed planet. To say the least, it was a gorgeous effect

Is it realistically possible for a Earth mass planet to have rings?

Perhaps faint rings would be possible but IMO, a distinctive ring formation would not be possible for a low mass planet

    Remember that movie from 1976?
    NETWORK?

Remember that memorable line?
"I'm made as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"?

   I feel like that!

The economy is going to hell in a handbasket.
TV news has become no news, but a medium to carry an agenda.
Certain people, who call themselves liberal, and claim that they
care for the underdog and the disadvantaged, but won't lift a finger themselves
to help them, but want to throw more money (your tax money) at the problem,
which doesn't work.
NASA is going down the toilet.

Big projects to provide energy, infrastructure, are regularly attacked
by an small army of lawyers, special interest groups and environmentalists
who cripple such efforts and deny millions of people work.

You have university professors in increasing numbers who attack Christianity but they fall over themselves to appease Muslims, even radical Muslims.

You have schools in increasing numbers turning out immoral, lazy and self-gratifying morons.

You have police increasingly attacked by intellectuals and the media for
overstepping their bounds or being too aggressive, yet those same eggheads
play the bleeding-heart violins for those numerous violent and threatening
malfactors in society who abuse the legal system to their advantage.

I'm mad as hell.....

I went to Hungary during 4 days to take part to a symposium about light pollution.

We flew from Brussels to Vienna then rented a car to Kaposvar, 47 km south of [http://www.youtube.com/user/Astroraoul?gl=FR&hl=fr|Lake Balaton].

Last friday, we went for a walk in a nature reserve, or a starry park called Zselic. It was so dark at times (the trees would hide the stars) we couldn't see each other though we were barely a meter from each other! That was quite an [http://www.youtube.com/user/Astroraoul?gl=FR&hl=fr#p/a/u/1/sdYSzbZ0bG0|experience]! I saw a fantastic Milky Way within Cygnus at the Zenith.

What was fun was the constant change in languages; of course, it was mainly english. We made lots of friends from all over the world.

From David Frum: "The president is right..."

Heh. Yeah I know, the subject line is outrageously out-of-context. Perhaps I have a future in the media!

I can't say I've agreed with many of Frum's opinions over the years, but he seems like maybe not a wholly unreasonable guy.

Sure, he's got a stark take on illegals and healthcare, but you know he's just floating an idea at this point. Running it up the old flagpole. Submitting it for discussion.

And as someone who dutifully, and gladly, dotted all my i's and crossed all my t's during the immigration process, I'm not completely sure I disagree with him on the matter. If the end result of breaking the law cannot be distinguished from the result of following it, then what's the point?
