Incidentally, that big facility about a thousand yards north of bin Laden's hideout is Pakistan's military academy. Go figure.

I'd have to move. Besides, it really wasn't that hard to locate once I had that first photo. There's only a limited area around there that has open fields like that. Locating stuff on Google Earth from ground photos and things is kind of a hobby of mine.

I wonder what those round holes in the yard were.

Eh. I lose a lot of "scoops" because I have to double-check everything. The only photo I had to work with to begin with I found on a news story, and it was the 2011 aerial photo. It didn't take me long to find a pattern of fields and roads that looked similar, but the houses in the area were all different, and the compound itself looked different. Obviously, the Google photos were older.

The photo was a DoD release, so I went there to find a better one, and you haven't known frustration until you try to find anything on a government site. Eventually, I located that presentation, and it included the older 2005 photo, which exactly matched the compound I'd found on Google Earth. I put a mark there, then did the search I had done earlier to see if anyone else had caught it, and of course by this time there was about half a dozen other flags on it.

Ah, well, it was good practice.

Dang. When I started checking this out, mine was the only damn marker on it and all the others were scattered all over the town. Now they're all parked there.
