There are two primary interfaces on this board. One is the main board, which shows up on my screen as white on black. It shows posts, and replies in "tree" form. You can read posts and replies. When you click on the displayed post or reply (a short section of text) it expands to the full text. You can do this to multiple comments to get all the text up if you want (useful sometimes). An expanded post will display the "Compose a reply" tab.

You can also move between boards in this mode. Click on "GeekSpeak" above this post to get to the main board thread display and a section where you can go to other boards.

The other interface is what I call "editor" mode. It shows up when you click "edit" on anything. This mode shows up on my screen as black lettering on a white background with some blue touches. On the left is a bar where you can click "Posts" or "Comments" to see them in chronological order. There is no "tree" format here. The editors in this mode are much better, and you can even reply to posts in this mode. I move back and forth between the two modes as I need to. It's annoying, but workable.
