Careful. You're getting perilously close to a fundamental epiphany. :)

You noticed Japan's reactors have dropped out of the news? I'm still following the recovery of the nuclear systems. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has yet been killed or even suffered any serious ill effects due to radiation. And this in the midst of a huge natural disaster that has actually killed thousands. I consider this a pretty good acid test of a near-obsolete nuclear system under severe stress.

Any discussion of the safety issues have to keep this in mind.

On that oil tax legislation, I think it's S.940, but Thomas doesn't have the text up yet. Again, this is just playing to the crowd.

If you want an unnerving experience, go over the list of bills proposed in the House and Senate in a given day. Thank God most of this shit goes nowhere or our society would be a complete wreck. Imagine playing a game where the rules changed every five minutes, and the guy making the rules was one of the players.

Thanks. I see that the legislation was being proposed today to come up for a vote next week. I'll look it up tomorrow when I have more time.

The anti-nuke movement is now left and right, anyone who looks at Japan and says, "Damn! I don't want to glow in the dark, risk my home, my children's lives so we can have cheap nuclear power." And that is the bottom line. Any nuclear disaster is one too many and there are too many things in nature that can screw up what is thought to be safe and make it into something very unsafe.

We have to deal with what's before us.

The issue of Government owned oil companies is more complex than that. Governments want to make money, too, particularly if they're run by greedy dictators or would-be dictators. They'll charge every last dime they can to line their coffers. So, talk about a red herring.

Greed is greed wherever you find it and is against the public good.

Sen. Claire McCaskill. And while she is a Democrat, she's moderate. She has to be in Missouri to stay in office and there is some doubt that she will be able to. Typically, Kansas City and St. Louis, the large urban areas are heavily Democratic while the outlands are heavily Republican. It's a precarious balance for any politician running in Missouri. I constantly see her swinging a bit to the right on a lot of issues in order to keep in line with her constituency. She has a tough row to plow. I personally think she's doing a pretty good job. Contrary to what you believe about me, I am not a far left liberal.

TB, anyone who isn't in total agreement with you is a leftist. I have never heard you describe anyone or any point of view that challenged your in any other way. And I suspect you use that polite a term only out of courtesy.
Well I guess that makes me one too. And I'm proud of it. In fact, I guess it makes an awful lot of people leftists. And I'm glad of that.
