It was all pretty calm in my immediate area, thunder and lightning, no real wind or hail and no tornado sightings. Now down south in Okla & Arkansas, they had a real bad night. And sirens sent the poor already shell-shocked Jopliners running to shelters for about an hour and a half.

KC on air newsman reporting from Joplin had to run for cover twice. Fortunately the basement for St. John's Medical Center was still intact and useful. The firemen, police, other newsmen and all the people there from other areas who came to help were hunkered down in St. John's basement.

I would bet a lot of people in that area have discovered or rediscovered God over the past few days.

Spent about an hour in the closet under the stairs with Ava last night. Four sets of rotational clouds but not a drop of rain. Civil defense sirens added to the apprehension. It was a good lesson for my granddaughter. Mom stayed in the downstairs bathroom.

Wasn't scared at all, but when the power went off Ava became quite upset.

We took turns reading Dr. Suess when the power was on.

I've been watching. Weatherman has kept us updated. It doesn't look like anything serious in my area. Poor Joplin had sirens going off again tonight. Jesus. Those poor people are stressed out enough; they didn't need a repeat of the sirens even if the tornadoes skipped them this time.

Newsman from KC who went down there after the destruction the night it happened, had to take shelter in the basement of St. John's Medical Center twice tonight while he was on the air with us here in KC. Their basement is OK, just the rest of the place pretty well ripped up, windows out and the top floors demolished. But that basement is where all the cops, firefighters, and other personnel who came down to help have gone for shelter along with the newspeople.

We've had thunder and lightning (lots of that) and rain but no major wind that I've heard and no hail. The tornado watch is pretty inactive although not expired. I think one weatherman with NBCAction News is staying just in case until the 3:00 o'clock expiration when all the storms will have passed.

I'm about to hit the hay. Even my cats aren't concerned although Merc is scared of thunder and he stretches out under an end table until it's all gone. Phoenix? Sleeping peacefully in the middle of the floor not too far from Mama (his usual place). So that's a good indication all is well.

I'll keep those weather sites bookmarked for future use.

I shall say a Thank You prayer tonight that the bad stuff has missed us.

I've got some good clothes in my closet in rubber bins in various sizes that I outgrew after I quit smoking and gained some weight. I think I'll look into how I can get those down to Joplin for the people who have lost everything. We've got trucks going down there with water on Thursday and KU Med Ctr. is sending a lot of stuff down there on Friday on a truck. Maybe I could send those boxes with them. I'll check on that tomorrow.

I think that would be a great use for clothes I no longer need and will never wear again and are pretty nice. I guess now I know why I haven't taken them to Good Will or tossed them. I'll do without the tax deduction so some ladies can have something to put on their back.

Wow, I'm just all wound up, aren't I? I get that way late at night sometimes. :-)

That one's an isolated cell. The monster itself is rotating around western Kansas and hauling a huge line of storms counterclockwise like a huge crack the whip. It's heading over the western Missouri border now. Take care.

I can get those from my TV station. I ought to sign up again. I got them while I was still working but at my work e-mail.

We're under a severe thunderstorm warning and a tornado watch until 3:00 a.m.

I'll be going offline soon because it's thundering out there now and getting closer.
