That's what I thought; however, you had indicated that vegetarianism meant you couldn't digest meat.

Well, this story seems to have a life of its own which means I'd better let it run with itself, so to speak. I turned it into a Chapter 1 last night and my head was full of Peocopeece all night and this morning. So there will be lots more of these guys.

Hmmm. Thanks. That will put me into a different direction on this, then. I'll have to think about how I want to handle it.

You guys are the cat's meow (I've been watching cat behavior shows today. :-))

Tom is correct about the Delta V required to approach a stars surface.

Unless his ship had attained the DV required, an orbit is certain. Again, depending on the velocity of his ship when destroyed that orbit might be close enough to burn him to a crisp.

Keep in mind that the greater the gravity of an object, the harder it is to escape from or to land once you have escaped.

That sounds like a great possibility. I had originally envisioned his being caught in the Sun's gravity and being pulled in by that. When his ship is destroyed, he had momentum that sent him toward the sun and he's just on the outer edge when he's rescued.

Possible? Improbable?

Interesting. It hadn't occurred to me to approach it from that direction. I'll play with this and see how it develops. Thanks.

Nice. But you may have left a room un-explored.

Gods incarnate as humans for many reasons. Many, like Zeus, did it to get laid. Others did it to kick but, or to, as your character does, to give a warning or a prophecy.

One of the interesting concepts of ole JC is that he took the form of a human to try and understand the universe from the perspective of his creation.

The searing pain of being mutilated by lead projectiles could be the moment of epiphany for the guardian into why humans act as they do. They'll do anything to avoid that kind of pain. Or the pain of starvation after a ruined crop. Or the pain of the loss of those close to them.

The final twist however, is that the guardian only experienced the pain of being human in that moment. She's watched the planet long enough to know that humans also experience joy and love with an intensity opposite to what she experienced. But she'll never get to experience that human trait.

Then, the whole idea of free-will comes crashing in when she realizes she can herself blame God for her pain at not having experienced the joy of being human.

The terms can be applied either biologically or culturally. Humans can nicely digest either meat or most vegetables. Humans are biological omnivores. A human cultural vegetarian can eat meat, but just chooses not to. This requires paying more attention to nutrients, but it can be made to work just fine. A cow can't eat meat at all. A chimp can eat either. I don't think cats can digest vegetables, but I'm not sure. As you describe your fictional species, they can digest either meat or vegetables (biological omnivores), but choose to eat one or the other. Most in your story choose not to eat meat.

TB, I've been doing some research on vegetarianism, omnivorism and herbivorism. What I'm finding in the dictionary and in Wikipedia doesn't mention digestibility as a prerequisite for any of those. It does mention digestion in omnivorism in that they CAN digest both but not in veggie & herbie, you may be able to digest both but choose not to eat both.

If you have a reference I could read stating that digestion is a prerequisite, I would appreciate having that. I want to be accurate but I also want to make it a simple thing in that this Peeocopeece tribe eats only plants by preference where other tribes eat meat. It's important for my little "joke" to work. I appreciate any help you can give me on this.
