Iceland Crowdsources Constitution June 9, 2011 1:01 pm Vitruvius

Here.

Seems like an interesting concept – the only other time Ive ever heard about this method was in a sci-fi novel.  Granted, this method does lend itself to certain abuses (I hope to god 4chan does’t find out about this), but it does seems like an appropriate method for forming governments in the 21st century.

The only downside of this is that they’re using Facebook.  FREAKING FACEBOOK.  Lord knows how many articles will involve Angry Birds.  Twitter and YouTube are also being used, which doesn’t make this situation any better.  Also?  The citizens can’t edit it outright like a Wikipedia article.  While this may be good, it certainly detracts from the whole made-by-the-people aspect.

As long as they can make sure that each and every suggestion taken into consideration is in the interests of Icelandic citizens (i.e. what they want).  What about you guys?  (I already know what TB’s going to say)

BTW, their main website is here.  They’re taking suggestions there as well, and apparently, it’s not limited to Iceland (though I suppose it would be good to know Scandinavian *Goes to Goolge Translator*)
