Per the research, evidently it does (work exactly right). The only reason a pulse is needed is because the heart itself gets fed between pulses. The rest of the body doesn’t need the “pulse.” And with this system, the heart gets fed all the time.

I saw the movie “Threshold” years ago, about the controversial first transplant of an artificial heart into a young girl. At the time, it was science fiction. I don’t remember much of the movie, but I remember the scene where the machine is inserted in the chest, hooked up, and it quietly begins to purr, filling with blood. As with this real-life patient, the girl would have no pulse.

I don’t know if the circulatory system works exactly right if there’s no pulse in it. I guess we’ll find out.
