Is time an Illusion? June 23, 2011 4:14 pm FrankC

This was the question on last night’s Through The Wormhole.

It was overall very interesting, with good arguments on both sides. One thing  that caught my interest was the changing perspective of time as we age. Using age 10 as a base, time  speeds up by a factor of  2.4 at age 60. I have been aware of this by my own observation but this is the first time I have seen it quantified.

If (and it’s a big if) the increase persists at the same rate, a human 500 years old would perceive a 4 ly  journey at 10% C to be a bit more than 2 years.

I have always wondered why the is so little speculation on extended life and time perception as a possible answer to interstellar travel.
