Earth water tastes good. Most water out there tastes like something with 16 legs crapped in it.

Or so I've heard. From reliable sources.

I've said too much.

Aw, the poor babies have enough energy to travel between stars, but can't melt a little ice?

Heck, why not just drop down somewhere in the middle of the Pacific then and suck up all the water they want? I worked out that they could suck up about 80 billion tons of water and just drop the ocean back to where it was in the 1800s. End of sea level problem.

Not that it adds much credibility, but they did pay lip service to this. Somehow our water being liquid and on the surface is important and unique in the known galaxy.

Don't ask me how that works, but they deserve some credit for not ignoring the obvious as most scifi films do.

This appliesto the entire Oort cloud, actually. Not to mention the moons of every pther plant in the solar system as well, not to mention a vast majority of the planets themselves. Hell, even Venus has water!!

After our water again? Cripes. Hollywood SF. This made me nuts back during the first V television series.

"Hey, monster dudes, you know that nice ringed planet you passed on the way in? Those rings? All them moons? All the water you want, and you don't even have to haul it out of an atmosphere or filter out the whales."

.... Why the hell didn't I know about these things? I assumed everything good and geeky existed outside of the Bay Area.

Well, steam creates energy and energy has infinite possibilities.

I guess the problem adherent to steam is mass. Under future circumstances that problem could go away.

In the movie Battle For Los Angeles, the aliens ran everything on our water. So much so the ocean levels were dropping hours after their arrival. Sounds like fusion but maybe steam was in the equation somewhere. Water seemed to ooze from their mechs.

Steam is something you have to burn things to get. Or split atoms. Or gather sunlight. Most of our energy sources (except wind, hydro, and photoelectric) go through a steam phase somewhere along the line.
