Hmmmm...

Linking's always been an integral part of blogging (I'm learning at this late date, having been unimpressed with it before I met WordPress), and if you use a blog's "permalinks", then you let the blog software at both ends cooperate using "trackbacks" and "pingbacks" to generate those lists of "other blogs linked to this article" you sometimes see. I'm guessing Instapundit has a preferred form of links they'd want you to use for accountability's sake, if so, you should try to use them here.

It also occurs to me that you could use the 'title' attribute on the A tag to credit your source. Hovering the mouse over the link would produce some sort of credit line in a tool tip popup, "link to XX provided by Instapundit".

Or/and you could put a synopsis there, answer those critics who think a naked link doesn't convey enough information.

The Zone's being particularly inspirational this morning.

One of my favorite websites is Instapundit, which is basically a collection of links with short comments now and then. His site is so popular that he can crash less-robust servers simply by publishing a link to them. He has no comment function at all, but has printed some of my e-mails.

Now and then, I totally steal link ideas from him. I suppose if this board becomes more widely read I'll have to start crediting that sort of thing.

Good work, VB

I was entertained, and even as I admittedly started skimming after the first couple of pages, the organization creates a stroboscopic flicker of meaning even during skimming. That's probably what ER found so psychedelic, the old hippie.

Eri directly and Tom indirectly point out the drawback to the format: It's impossible to comment on individual items. But it's not going to be a problem in the long run. This is yet another example of why I love letting Zoners play with my software. I'd anticipated that people would always behave like Tom, posting separate items as separate topics, so I hadn't had to think about the other extreme. But with this example to challenge me, I see that there's a way to handle commenting within a long post, more annotation than comment...and that's all I'll say at this point. Well that, and that the technique will also support academic/teaching projects and collaborations, which will make it attractive to my professional masters.

I'd welcome your ideas on how to let people comment on this style of post, but I'd also say, keep posting the way you want to post, and let me come up with software to support it. And thanks for the inspiration!

I love it! Of course, I keep wanting to insert some responses. Hee. Some of these could become discussion items. Let's see, I could assign topics 1-5 to TB, topics 6-10 to ER... LOL. *JK*

You could call it: The Weekly Rift
or
The Weekly Riff
or just
The Riff

The Weekly Skinny

Room for a View

Capsules from the Crew

Shut me up!

No really, I gotta stop.

I took a quick glance and didn't see any code problems. Bu then, I didn't see any problems in the text unless you wanna discuss misspelling typos.

Nice work! I usually stick everything in separate threads, but your way seems less oppressive somehow.
