That’s where “people like you”, and I use that term in jest, miss the boat. Fear has nothing to do with it. The whole “phobic” nonsense was started by the homosexual lobby as propaganda. People just don’t like having their cherished cultural institutions turned completely upside down by fringe groups. What people choose to do in their personal lives is their own business. It’s the forcing of thier lifestyle upon the larger culture in general that pisses people off.

FWIW, I do agree that laws need to be changed concerning private matters. People should be able to give power of attorney, visitation rights, and anything else to anyone they want. It’s the legal side of marriage that most homosexuals would like to have avaliable to them, and I fully agree with them in that regard.

They probably wouldn’t have one. Few groups are as isolationist (historically) as the Mormons. Heck, one of the first things they did was move themselves off the face of the civilized world. If there had been spaceships back then, Salt Lake City would probably have been on Mars.

I agree completely Tom…but I am a raging heterosexual. Libertarian. Ornery. If my 37 year marriage ever goes south again…or my husband dies before me…I will NEVER get married again….AMEN! So needless to say I don’t *really* understand my girls needing that piece of paper.

All I know is that this is VERY important to them. That is good enough for me.

Our church had a funeral service for one member of a married lesbian couple. I don’t know where they got married, or by who. It was years before we joined the church. The remaining woman is a member of the church council.

Seems to me if someone wants to get married, the laws aren’t really much of an obstacle. Just needs more legal bullshit on the other side than a state-sanctioned marriage.

Yes. However I have had many years to reflect on this. Closed minded means a state of being that does not allow for the ability to embrace all that is different because of fear.

Scientology wasn’t always a religion, it originally started out as a pseudoscience, a self-help fad based on the popularity of Freudian psychoanalysis in mid-20th century America.

Even Elron himself initially didn’t claim it was a religion, as he stated himself in “Dianetics” (1950). It would be curious to see if subsequent editions of his book still contain this passage.

“The first contribution of dianetics is the discovery that the problems of thought and mental function can be resolved within the bounds of the finite universe, which is to say that all data needful to the solution of mental action and Man’s endeavour can be measured, sensed and experienced as scientific truths independent of mysticism or metaphysics.”

The religion of Scientology has more to do with US Tax Law and exploitation of Constitutional Law than with God’s Law.

One of my current undeveloped plots for a potential science fiction novel involves a post apocalyptic world in which Scientology is one of the few remaining organized groups still inhabiting a Mad Max America. I’m thinking of maybe a stuggle for power between them, the Klan, the Mormons, right wing militias, skinhead gangs, and the United Hip-Hop BloodCrip Brothers of the Hood.

Or maybe I’ll have them all declare a truce and join forces to repel an invasion of the Mexican Drug Cartels.

It still needs a lot of work.
