It’s a choice, but as I’m sure you’re aware, medical professionals have to be trained to protect themselves while they do what they do.

My wife worked in dialysis for 15 years, and the precautions they take to avoid contact with blood are extensive. It’s more or less considered a toxic substance, which is rather ironic, but the risks of exposure to blood outside the clinic are the same as in.

Yes, it is true that mouth to mouth is no longer recommended. They want the blood to continue to flow. Also, it was difficult because you had to count and all that crap. Now you just push, push, push, push, push, push until you fall over dead.

Hmm, a wise crack is supposed to be a funny remark about a serious subject. (I consider myself to be a pretty good wise cracker.)

Your comment seems completely serious, but more seriously, further reading on the subject indicates that experts feel CPR time is better spent pumping the chest and mouth to mouth might even increase the risk of death.

Well, at the risk of sounding like I’m cracking wise, “unprotected” mouth-to-mouth apparently isn’t recommended anymore.

My wife, a nurse, has a kit that she carries around with her that allows mouth-to-mouth without direct physical (skin on skin and spit on spit) contact.

I heard somewhere recently that mouth to mouth is no longer part of CPR protocol. Didn’t say why, but will surely elicit some wisecracks.
