I think now is the perfect time to demand a balanced budget. If it isn’t accomplished now, it never will be. This is a watershed moment for the country. Either we get spending under control now and reverse the course over Niagra, or we fall into the abyss.

Once the debt goes beyond GDP, our bonds will be downrated, the currency will lose value at an even faster rate, and the people we’re borrowing from will begin to tighten the screws on us.

“Never let a crisis go to waste” Remember those words? Do you really think it’s an accident that the US dollar’s value is in near free fall? Things like that don’t just happen. Polices have to be put into place to cause it. I can put up tons of quotes from the leaders on your side saying how America needs to be reduced in power.

It’s also interesting that you desperately avoid any mention of what Obama has actually done in this arena since he was inaugurated. Or “not done” to be precise.

Particularly fascinating is how any mention of Obama’s own budget – the only thing from the Democratic side that actually has specifics – is instantly wiped from the discussion.

How many times have we been through this? TARP? The “stimulus?” Obamacare? All legislation that was jammed down our throats by people screaming that if we didn’t give them this power and loot we were all going to die.

The Democrats can fix this in five minutes by agreeing to pass a short-term limit increase with a small spending cut. You tell me who’s using this for political advantage.

I don’t care what you believe. I just want you to stop changing the subject and admit trying to get a balanced budget by threatening default is NUTS. It’s one thing for the loons on the right to deny evolution and climate change with their junk science. It isn’t about the money, Lee. It’s about the power. If they can destroy the GOP with this hysteria, the Democratic Party wins.

If the economy burns to the waterline over the next ten years but the Democrats have power, it’s still a win.

“Does this give us power” is the ONLY aspect of any policy that is addressed. Go down the list over the past few years and look for yourself. Health care, energy, economics, budgets, education, you name it. It’s why any solution in any of these areas that removes power and wealth from the State is automatically not only dismissed, but demonized.
