The sole Democratic objective right now is the destruction of the conservative/Republican coalition that beat the living crap out of them last November. To do this, they need a major tax increase with the stamp of the Republican Party on it. Beyond that? Screw the economy. This is not the first time they've pulled this gag. Question is, will the Republicans run up to kick this football again? "I will gladly cut spending Tuesday for a tax increase today." A lot of damage can be done between now and January of 2013.
