Gold doesn't make money because it is money. The hardcore gold bugs don't talk of the price of gold in dollars; they look at the price of dollars in gold. Which is dropping all the time. My guess is that this bull run, which started the day Brown sold much of the UK's hoard back in '99, will last another couple of years. Before that it'll get weird, like back in '80, but even weirder. Gold is the canary in the coal mine.

Silver will be weirder, but perhaps more spectacular.

Be careful out there.

Gold is not a way to make money, it's a way to preserve it from inflation. I heard once that an ounce of gold will buy pretty much the same amount of stuff today that it would have a hundred years ago. Haven't checked that out, though.

Gold's had some damn good times of late. Once the economy goes on a real upswing, though, you'd better be out of Gold by then. It won't have another "up" time for a long time. Just a prediction based on historical performance.

It could have been worse. I have been rebalancing for some time now.

Gold funds aren't doing too bad since last year...

I'm sorry you lost money today. A lot of people I know did, too. Thank God, I'm out of the stock market.
