My post was stupid.

It was late and I was a bit distracted by dealing with a mine owner who doesn't know what the hell they are talking about and was trying to trick me into endorsing their stupidity. Long story, that, dating back over 19 years.

Anyway, here a link with a better description:
http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/08/23/7451929-small-quake-has-big-reach

However, this can also work the other way 'round. Unconsolidated sediment will amplify shaking from a quake, so in a place Like San Francisco, a house on Knob hill is safer than a house in the Marina.

They said this morning that it was more intense and so widespread because it was shallow.

I was hoping you'd give us your take on it since you're our resident expert.

There was a seismologist and head of the Scientific Survey (?) in California on the Today Show who was giving some good information until the jerks on the Today Show cracked up over her saying something about "few faults" which Anne Curry chose to take as if directed to her so while they were cackling and having a good time, the expert's words were drowned out. Makes me want to turn the damned show off.

The reason it was felt so intensely and so far away even though only 5.9 or whatever, is because the area's geological makeup has a lot of rock (that's what I heard on the news).

It was only 5.9 in magnitude but was felt far away, though I did not feel anything here on the shore of Georgian Bay, there are reports north, east, and south of this area where it was shaking buildings.
Some information about it is at the following site.

Wouldn't it be something if Washington DC fell into the sinkhole that it has become of late. Now, THAT would be justice.

(*JK* I would NOT want all the thousands to die. Well, maybe a couple of lobbyists and a few teabaggers, but...)
