mp3 @ amazon

War of the Worlds mp3 download.

I recognize Justin Hayward's track, being a lifelong Moody Blues fan myself (saw them several times at the old Circle Star...remember it?). The rest of the samples sounded pretty impressive, especially Richard Burton's part. But I can't figure out the pricing to buy it: $16.99 for the album download, or 13 X $0.99 for individual tracks? Doesn't compute. Do you know if the album has additional material (that can be downloaded--paper filler doesn't count)?

I've never heard this work, but I've heard much about it. The personnel involved includes some real heavyweights, as well as some serious rock talent.

Second lyric is from the Moody Blues. I'm a big fan of theirs, too, and we saw them a few years back at the Shoreline.

Ever heard Justin Hayward on this?

Actually, it's Mick that's being ironic, and deliberately so. He's no "street fightin' man", he's just a "singer in a rock and roll band"... what can a poor boy do?

And that's why he makes the big bucks. He not only sees it, he let's us in on it, too.

Nope. Didn't say any of that stuff. Not even remotely. I don't believe any of it either.

Just pointing out the amusing irony of the lyrics.

I don't resent Mick 's millions one bit.

I pay for his product because I want to, I enjoy it, and it is his product, he made it, and he deserves to profit from it. His fans don't pay to make his manager rich, or his agent, or his record company, or anyone else but the artist himself. What he does with his money after I buy his music is his business.

I just think you find it outrageous and insufferable, that in Mick's case at least, all those suits are working for him. The vitriol in your tone gives you away. I've noticed you don't like it when the workman gets the prize, the musician, artist, athlete, etc. It's like the inmates running the asylum. Yet you never complain when the owner, manager, executive collects the lion's share. It's easy to see who you really believe is the creative, important member of the partnership, the one who really deserves to get the girl, the gold watch, and everything.

Well, you could do worse.

Ol' Mick's on the other side of that fancy gate, now. Ask not for whom the revolution comes...

But what CAN a poor boy do? ...except to sing for a rock and roll band...

The greatest rock and roll band in the world....ever.

Everywhere I hear the sound of marching, charging feet, boy
Cause summers here and the time is right for fighting in the street, boy
But what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock n roll band
Cause in sleepy london town
There's just no place for a street fighting man
No

Hey! think the time is right for a palace revolution
But where I live the game to play is compromise solution
Well, then what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock n roll band
Cause in sleepy london town
There's no place for a street fighting man
No

Hey! said my name is called disturbance
Ill shout and scream, I'll kill the king, I'll rail at all his servants
Well, what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock n roll band
Cause in sleepy london town
There's no place for a street fighting man
No

The protests will begin in earnest when the Republicans get elected and learn they can't make the recession go away either. Yes, Mr Perry is going to be our next President, and he will probably have a Congressional majority to rubber-stamp all he wants. Nothing will change, and he will just blame Obama and Clinton.

Our economic problems are systemic, not amenable to correction by a policy fix. Nobody, left or right, upper, lower or middle class, wants to hear that, but that's the way it is.

All the Democrats can do is borrow money and prevent catastrophe among the poor (no food riots on their watch), and all the Republicans can do is cut taxes, cut spending and boost corporate welfare to make sure that the elites aren't too inconvenienced by the general unpleasantness.

The people in the middle who do the work and pay the bills will simply decline in numbers until they no longer matter. And by the time they figure out what's really happening, they're going to be pissed. But by then it will be too late.

Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
