I never felt exploited.It is all a process. I was to too young to work…so I volunteered. I volunteered at the hospital because at the time I thought I wanted to be a nurse. When I became of age, I was given priority to being hired as a nurse’s aide.
My next step was going to school as a nurse, but I chose another path.

For me, and this is back in the early seventies, it was all about setting goals and the progression of steps to get there.

EDIT: Perhaps some explanation would be helpful here. I wrote a long post on the version of this thread on CE that used the candy striper as a metaphor, and I included a picture of one to help further understanding.

When I moved the post to Flame, the text was lost, but the image remained intact. I have left it for your enlightenment and amusement.

I’m just to lazy to rewrite the text, or go looking for it in the bit bucket.
