As an aside, that reminds me that "telephone bias" used to be a problem when taking random surveys. Designers had to factor in people not answering the call or hanging up. The biggest flaw was- not every household owned a phone.

On the flipside today people have been ditching their landlines for cellphones and as far as i know, there isn't a directory for cellphone numbers.

So now a phone survey is likely to overlook more than a 1/4 of phone users, probably in a demographic all their own.

I don't take the time for polls that often, but when I do, I engage the polltaker. Politely, of course. I don't give them grief. He or she isn't political - they've been hired to do this and it's just a job. But I talk to them about the questions. Point out when they're loaded or give false choices (common). Often I give a different answer, and ask why that isn't the best one. You'd be surprised how often the polltaker laughs and agrees with me. Of course, I end up giving them answers they can put down. I don't know if they get paid by the successfully completed poll or not.

Or of people the pollster didn't terminate early. I've had them do that when they found out my views weren't what they wanted. Then it was, Thank you--Click! So they didn't have to count me in their poll.

Always remember, every poll is comprised of people who did not hang up on the pollster, saying "hey, I've got a life, here."

"well, that’s one helluva sentence; hope you understand it"

Unfortunately, I'm sure we all understand it all too well.

I can't remember anything on the TV show West Wing that didn't resonate with me. It also accurately portrayed the vindictiveness of some Republicans (I said some, not all).

What they were talking about in this was something they wanted to put into their budget that played one way in polling but they felt the question didn't accurately reflect the truth. That would almost always be the case since those polls are always skewed to show whatever whoever is paying the pollsters want them to show. (well, that's one helluva sentence; hope you understand it).

EDITED: Liberals know that Conservatives are convinced that they (Liberals)

Do not love their country.
Don't care about their families.
Love to pay high taxes.
Want to coddle criminals.
Make excuses for perverts.
Are soft on national defense.
Support tyranny in any form.
Are lazy and greedy.
Are weak, cowardly, and indecisive.
Are Communists.
Hate freedom.
Are cringing excuse-makers.
Have no morals.
Are trying to take over the world.
Are stupid.
Are too smart for their own good.

Need I go on?

I'm not saying you say these things, Jody, but this seems to be how conservatives often see and describe Liberals, and the evidence they use to justify their opposition to them. (Tell me there isn't any of those terms you haven't seen before, perhaps even on this forum). The result of all that is that if anyone describes their opponents like that, then they must feel that they are exactly the opposite. And that is the worst sin of all, hypocrisy.

I agree TB....and this is where I become frustrated with Liberals.

I find it interesting that the cliche`, *standing on your own two feet* has so many perceptions.

Where I reside is I expect, want, the same consideration as I give to others.

I feel we are all on equal footing.

Let's see if I can say this with reasonable clarity. I believe, as humans, that we all have the same capacity to achieve whatever we set out to accomplish. This has to include compromise, pitfalls, lean fiscal times, illness and the like.

I do pay it forward...omg how I pay it forward. However my version of paying it forward is different than other's ideas of this concept. I do not feel that I should expect ER or Eri to follow my lead in this manner. Perhaps they can not, or they have other ways to pay it forward.
It is a personal, individual belief that I cherish. Choice.

To be fair, he didn't say anything about "conservative Christians" in that post. Nor did he paint with a broad brush on the Pat Robertson thread.

However, "conservatives think it's not their problem" is factually untrue.
