When handling sensitive files, you don't let it out of your sight. EVER. You also don't put it on a computer with internet access of any kind. Even having a connection to a "special" internet separate from the regular one could compromise not only the sensitive files but the whole system, which would need to be abandoned. And making something we don't have the vaccine to, well that DOES sound like something the US would do. Y'know, with all the bumbling the US does, we sort of seem like the show monkey of the planet. They have given the same computers they use to manage their most sensitive and secret installations both the compatibility with, and the ability to communicate over, the internet with all the other computers on the planet. If I wanted to use my computer to build a nuclear bomb in my home office, or to hide the stolen Top Secret files of my government, I would first unplug the internet connection from the wall socket. Problem solved. There is one reassuring thought.
