Hey, I'm not complaining. I'm bitching. There's a difference.

I know its not Robert's fault, it's just that THE SYSTEM has its "needs", and they must be served.

We were forced to abandon the original because the server was to be no more. IOW, we had to find a new home and I don't think Robert could migrate the old site. He had to find a new software although, truthfully, the members here were requesting things that the original software wouldn't support so he was also being responsive to our requests.

Maybe we're just getting old.
My daughter has a smartphone, and can play it like a piano. I watch my son play video games with interfaces that would make a 747 look like a Spitfire. They swim in tech like dolphins. Has their attention span suffered? I think so. I did things as a boy like build plastic models, a time-consuming, deliberate process. I could spend hours watching ants build a nest. I don't see a lot of that going on nowaday among the young. Their brains seem to be kicking along in a different gear. Of course, this is anecdotal, not rigorous.

Evolution in action. Are they losing something important, or gaining something important? Or as with all evolution, something of both? Again, as with all evolution, only time will tell.

I wonder if the ancient storytellers watched as writing took over, and complained that modern kids couldn't memorize more than a few hours of the great tales or the lineage of their ancestors.

Don't feel alone, brother. Although some software engineers are good writers, none of them seem to have devised these user interfaces. The only really intuitive interface I've seen on the Zone was the first one when I came aboard. That had to be abandoned for some mystical reason I never quite got. Not only was it easy to use, it was easy to learn, and easy to read.

Most of them seem to load you down with all sorts of capabilities you don't need or will never use, or make you jump through all kinds of hoops just to do really routine things. Its as if they have to load it down with all sorts of capabilities to make it appeal to as many people as possible, but they forget that not everyone spends their entire workday designing control panels. Some of us just want to play the radio.

All I want to do is fly my Spitfire,
and I have to learn the cockpit of a 747.

It's a kludge situation.
This is a blogging engine being shoehorned into a forum engine.

To give us all access to full control of our own material, the short-term answer was to make us all "moderators."

The rest is honor code, mostly. To date, as far as I know, nobody has abused this power.

I will admit that I have corrected some heading spelling errors.
