Meh... always these scares.

The internet may become somewhat crippled, but the only thing that could completely take it down is the next Carrington Super Flare (BEWARE!!!). The tubes will recover, and become immune to this and similar worms through human innovation.

Of course, same human innovation will undoubtedly lead to more crippling of the internet, but that's 'dem breaks.

You're not supposed to click on them. The test is whether or not all the links are visible. Look down the page for directions.

I clicked on each of the images and was led to sites for downloading those products. Since the sites came on, that means I don't have Conficker. Is that right? Or was there something else I was supposed to do?

I did click on the Penguin and got: "The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later. "

So I'm not sure what that means.

Actually, this is a relief. My McAfee was malfunctiong last night and made me very, very nervous. I shut the machine down and this morning when I booted up, ran a full scan just to be safe and everything was super duper okey dokey. But I know there are things (like the conficker) that burrows in and hides.

There are plenty of defenses against this worm.
Keep your operating systems up-to-date, and have anti-virus software running.

Did you see the test for it?

The problem, of course, is unsophisticated users all over the world.
