Yahoos?
 Hooting?

Go ahead, Robert. Report what you "see." Actual, existing acts of violence and civil disobedience.

I've been through this ridiculous charade once already, and the end result was sullen silence. Maybe you can do better?

Not words on paper. Not wild speculation. Things that have been done out here in the real world. Things broken and burned.

The Upper Midwest Blues

Ah feel yer pain, Eri. Though I just mentioned the coasts fissioning off, I hadn't forgotten that blue bulge hanging down from Chicago. It's just that I'm not certain which way it'd go, whether it's strongly blue enough to go independent or join a coast, or whether it'll acquiesce and accept a reddish tinge. The more enlightened Reds might notice that without the coasts, what's left has no industrial and little business base, so it might make a pitch for some of that urbanized territory around the Lakes. The Principality of Chicago might find itself sitting pretty, the object of competing geopolitical desires.

Concerns

I'm not surprised to hear that TPN has become more...TPN, I guess you'd say. It was exhibiting the classic red flags: a bunch of disgruntled people, mostly guys, mostly older, hanging out together and playing "can you top this?" (this grievance); and too much focus on one individual. Judson seemed to be enjoying his cult of personality, not to mention the TV appearances. Classic primate behavior of a wannabe alpha gathering his betas and stoking them for the fight to come.

I glanced at the yahoos below hooting in derision at the very idea that, if there's a civil war, it'll be sparked by the right. But I can only report what I see, not just at TPN, but at other firebreathing groups like the "Oath Keepers". It's walking, quacking, and looking like a duck to me.

But you know, whether I see a pending civil war wasn't the main thrust of my post, except insofar as splitting up the US would relieve the pressure before it got so bad that there's war. I've become pretty turned off and tuned out of politics these days, but I could get energized about fissioning the country.

I'm sorry, isn't my side supposed to be the one that's nuts? Is this your solution to losing elections?

As for who starts the violence (if any): based on the evidence of the past, I suspect it will be started by the same people who burn police cars, break windows and loot stores, block highways and bridges, and throw things at the police.

We already have "red" and "blue" states, and people can decide for themselves where they want to live. It's still legal to change where you live. So far.

Great god almighty!!

Liberals slay me.

On which side of this great civil War does your boy Obama fall?

Other than jawboning, how much difference has there really been in the last administration and this one.

All you looney birds are likely to see of civil war is Homeland Security coming down your driveway to deliver your meds and disconnect your internet.

You guys are sitting on the wrong side of a limb that you are trying your best to saw off.

Yeah, still on the inside

We talked about it a few times and eventually I saw your point of view.

TPN has tipped more in the direction you were concerned about.

Re: TPN

No, haven't gone back to look or try to get back in. You were just joining up as I was getting purged, if I recall right. You still on the inside? What's it like these days? I used to picture the place as a raucous beer hall dimly lit by torches...

Am I predicting civil war?

I can't responsibly rule it out, not while the "second amendment remedy" meme in all its glorious variations is so evidently thriving. But I don't think it's very controversial to predict that if there's a civil war, it won't be started by liberals. You'll get a more meaningful answer asking the teahadists if they plan a civil war.

I could go for a divorce, though, blue coasts cleaving off from the red interior. I think that if anybody had the balls to take a poll on the question at this point in time, they'd hear a chorus of "hell yeah!" from people standing on soil of both colors.

Perry, that lunkhead, just wasn't thinking big enough when he urged Texas to secede.

Seriously, can you think of any arguments against an amicable divorce? If ever there were two parties with irreconcilable differences, it'd be red and blue...or, when you analyze it closer, it's a culture clash of city versus country. And as somebody with city sensibilities, I've had it up to here with ignorant country bumpkins trying to run my life according to a philosophy based on a Disney vision of the 18th century. Enough!

Besides, if we don't part voluntarily and peacefully, the alternative is inevitably a civil war. The pressure can't keep building forever. I'd prefer to solve the problem without violence.

Sounds like you might be saying that outlawing gay marriage and abortion, as well as practicing fiscal responsibility will lead to civil war?

Getting the teabaggers to shut up would change where we're headed?

I think Americans have grown enough not to ratify any amendments regarding gays and abortion. The teaparty is checked by the people.

On the other hand "the people", the ones who put the teaparty in congress, seem to have more power than I've seen in the past. Their representatives are directly doing what they were ellected to.

The way things were set up, Well educated people were presented as candidates. The congressional TP appears to know nothing about the fragile world and US economies. This fact might lead to the doomsday you're talking about.

Quien Sabe...

(Did you get back on TPN?)
