You have a good point, but I think there are two other factors here.

One is consistency of enforcement. As the article pointed out, some ideas displayed on posters seem to be more equal than others. The second is that this is a university, not an office building, and the bar for squelching individual expression (at least in my opinion) should be a lot higher.

I used to work at Stanford, and many of the academic office doors were practically bulletin boards. I saw a lot of things I found offensive, but I would never have asked to have them removed. I saw a lot of things I thought were pretty cool, too.

P.S. you can edit posts and comments after they're posted. The editing on this system is very robust.

I'm not at all sure how that relates to the various rights of the school and professor. Having said that though, have you thought about the various religious colleges? All right wing.

However, the more public schools are filled with the best and the brightest, the more knowledgeable. Having thought things out more thoroughly than your average bear they will of course be more left-wing. Not driven by greed, with a concern for others besides themselves, they tend to go for "the greatest good for the greatest number". It's a function of education, an awareness of the world beyond themselves and intelligence working together. It's always been that way.

There's a difference between education and learning a trade, and intelligence and comprehending the world and it's people.

A lot of conservatives have been educated into a trade and can add, subtract and multiply, no doubt about it. That doesn't translate into compassion, empathy and a concern for anyone but themselves. When that happens one becomes a liberal.

At least that's how it seems from here.

As George Kennan said, "Reality is the natural enemy of conservatives."

American Universities and colleges today are now, by design, overwhelmingly leftist in their belief systems and political activities. Students and faculty alike frequently glorify monstrous leftists like Mao Tse-tung and Che Guevara. To some, they are socialist revolutionary heroes, while to others their image alone is testimony of mass murder and oppression.

But *this* is okay?????

Somehow the above got posted prematurely. To continue- - - -

The building belongs to the school, it is not the professors'. I think they have a right to determine what is appropriate to be displayed on their property and what isn't.

If it were on the front door of his home he'd have a point and I'd defend his right to have it. But not on his employer's property.

I'm not sure what the problem is. If the poster was on the inside of his office I'd think he'd have a case

I hope someone sues the University for this egregious display of anathemic totalitarianism.
