The grape? Well, I'm no teetotaler, or recovering abuser, but I haven't been intoxicated since the last time I went to visit my cousin Robert the Red in Tampa months ago. And it wasn't the grape.

I have never thought of you as too far left.

I just realized you were a bit much into the grape when you started calling me a fascist.

As the guy was finishing with all the hand signs, I was wondering what was wrong with the old-fashioned raised middle finger. A picture of a thousand people flipping the bird while circling Wall Street would be priceless.

Frank, if you really think I'm "too far left", then you'd better hope you never run into someone who actually is.

If the tea party succeeds in making people like me impossible, it will certainly make people like them inevitable.

We're also pretty ingenious at finding ways to prevent them from communicating. That's a lot of what this thread is about.

These ne'er-do-wells are what all the fuss is about?

When even a city like Portland can only draw a few hundred dregs of society like this for a protest, then you know this "movement" is much ado about nothing. Maybe they could find a job if they took the scrap metal out of their faces.

Very...verbal. Not too linear, but very verbal.

Tommy, I'm just getting started.

C'mon, don't pretend you haven't seen the Joe the Plumber Paradigm cleverly put into play. "Us honest conservatives are hard workin' country folk with our Nascar and our NFL and our country music". And the enemy is the intellectual, the snooty big-city know-it-alls, the college perfesser, the rich movie star and Hollywood mogul and Rock musician,
the Liberal Elite. And of course, the Main Stream Media and those rich guys that own it (except of course, the Rupert Murdochs and their ilk). Republican populism vs country club commies. Now why didn't I think of that? The rich lefties have recruited the ghetto types to steal our country from us. What a scene, what a scene!

Of course, the real capitalists, the Wall Street types and the executives sending jobs overseas, the hedge fund people of the big bonuses; those are never mentioned. It's always those rich Liberals vs the little small town entraprawnewers. All they need to complete the picture is Pat Nixon's "good Republican cloth coat", with Checkers humping Jane Fonda's pretty leg in the background for comic relief.

That's how the Right has recruited the redneck. They were no longer useful after manufacturing went overseas, they are all surplus people, and now they're losing everything they ever had and hoped for and they're really pissed off. And now, they've finally got someone to be pissed off at. The cause of all their problems.

They have someone to blame now. Al Gore, the EPA and the teacher's unions are the cause of all their problems. How bloody convenient. Of course, religious intolerance and racial bigotry played a role in the recruiting process too, but we won't get into that here. It plays right into the mix.

You see, in America, all the white folks are middle class, maybe in temporary financial embarassment, but nobody calls himself rich, or poor (except the browns and the blacks). We are all middle class. If we're on hard times its on account of the Liberals, and the blacks, and the Mexicans.

Don't tell me about class warfare, I'm watching it being waged on a mass scale, by experts.
