Now Tombrosia....I have a PhD. in stains....I am the one who taught the Bard, years ago the phrase.."Out damn spot!" ( I am a re-incarnation of his maid. Boy do I have some stories...but then I was only The Help...and yes that is a gratuitous plug for the movie)

Any future questions of stainage shall be directed to yours truly.

Well, being a guy is one reason I have to deal with stains that have been languishing in the laundry hamper for a week.

LOL at this conversation between two guys.

I swear Tom shout and even non-brand pre-wash sprays gets those exact stains out of my white or colored tees etc. I hate those stains and anything that comes out like that goes back for a rewash. If they have been there for awhile try soaking in Oxy clean or using the gel.

If you are having the problem with other than cotton or mostly cotton fabric all bets are off

As a professional and scientific househusband I have defeated all stains until these dang grease ones. For some reason they stick tenaciously to colored cotton, making a mark similar to what a drop of water might look like, only lighter. Makes me look like a slob. Well, more slobby than my norm.

Shout seems to work for us for routine clear grease stains, most of the time. I suspect Shout may come from the same vat as dish washing liquid and a powder always seems to help lift stains.

I used to keep a spray product that was a combination of powder and some kind of solvent, to get stains out of my ties. It worked pretty good if the stain was not mustard. Mustard seems to be the stain of death.

I had a pair of cargo pants that had had some kind of black stain that had been there forever. Someone around here used oxyclean gel on it and Lo and behold it disappeared.

I am kind of a freak about stains so I keep a Tide stain pencil handy for quick removal of routine stains. It works pretty good.

The problem with solvents is if you're unlucky it will just do a sort of "electrophoresis" thing and spread the stuff into a nice ring. You have to soak it all up.

I found a couple of other things that worked, but they all infested my shirts with the stench of Parisian cathouse.

(For the record, the cathouses in all the different countries all smell different. Well, Algeria and Morocco are kind of the same.)
