The little girl in China has died.

“And frankly, I have had it up to my eyebrows with people shitting all over it”

I interpreted the “tragic” post as best I could, and it seemed to say that an underlying cause of this attitude was military spending instead of pumping our money to schools in China to teach them how to be nice. If I’m wrong, clarify.

The idea that our morality is the problem is what’s absurd, if not outright obscene. We did not create the Chinese culture. What we’re trying to prevent is that set of ideas – far deeper than politics – from infecting our own country.

This is what happens in our culture, just a very recent example. Here’s another.

No nation on this planet has done more selfless good for the rest of the world than ours has, by any conceivable measure.

And frankly, I have had it up to my eyebrows with people shitting all over it.

For a nice guy, certainly a good neighbor,a great ‘Zoner, there seems to be a mind which is stuck somewhere.

Just for one, do you think your government gives a big rat’s ass about you? Or me? Cares if either of us lives or dies? Or how? (Hint: Just don’t ever embarrass it.)

I believe it was Jung who said that the center of all iniquity lies 5 km. behind enemy lines, because we cannot bear to face our own dark sides. Those who can face that realize that humanity is more important than national boundaries, that compassion and understanding includes those who live in yurts, tents, caves and have camels instead of Cadillacs.

And that poverty is not a moral issue to be condemned and you cannot starve a person into good citizenship.

There I go, doing what I said I wouldn’t. Not because you aren’t worth it, but because it’s hard to paint the rainbow which is the world for eyes which see only black and white.

Waiting for your nation to be attacked is a hell of a time to start thinking about building up defense systems from scratch. You might be looking at things backwards when looking at the connection between a powerful military and willingness to use it, and the lack of attacks on a country.

Even a little bit.

Mention the War of 1812 and a Canadian will quickly remind us that we invaded THEM. LOL. And burned the White House. Of course, then I remind them we kicked their asses into the Gulf of Mexico. It can get to be a lively discussion. I just love Canadians. They have their own version of the “Battle of New Orleans” song and it ain’t pretty.

One can count oneself blessed to live in a place which has the resources to build hospitals, schools, libraries, clinics, wells, roads, power projects all over the world. One modern bomber costs $2 billion, enough to build and equip 100 modern schools which could educate people in ways of empathy and humanity. And even more in third-world countries.

Or provide and equip 100 modern hospitals to which to take that poor girl.

All that for the cost of one bomber. Which drops bombs indiscriminately, creating hundreds upon hundreds of dead little girls.

We feel for that little girl while creating thousands more of her. How cold can we get? That is a great question, and we haven’t plumbed the depths yet, I’m afraid. I’m very afraid. Of us, not ‘them’.
