A lot of noise is made about Glass-Steagall, and the new ability of commercial banks to do investments.

How many people realize that Bear-Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and Merrill-Lynch were all investment banks to start with? That Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were government-sponsored entities not covered by the law? AIG was an insurance company.

None of these institutions were commercial banks that screwed up by getting into investment banking. In fact, the repeal is what allowed commercial banks to come in and save some of their asses.

In short, what would have been different with these companies if Glass-Steagall were still in place?

Sure, repeal the right of corporations to have a say in politics. Their job is to sit quietly and be eaten. All we need in politics are unions, which pump more money into the system than anyone else.

Audit the Fed? I could get behind that one.
