We've done the numbers a few times before on where the "loot" in this country goes. I could do them again.

I gave Bowser a coloring exercise in a comment on the "why are they subsidized" thread below. Look for the comment that starts "Obama's last budget can be found here." Give the exercise a try. Keep in mind that this spending is annual. Every single year. If you're interested in totals, add the percentages up and apply them to $3.6 trillion.

"Bankrupt our country?" The total cost of the wars so far, both of them, after over ten years, is still less than just the deficit for 2011 alone.

It doesn't work, Lindy. And repeating it a thousand times won't make it work.

Article by WSJ journalist DOUGLAS SCHOEN, is highly skewed...are you sure you weren't breathing over his shoulder Tom? The piece is pure FICTION.
He is saying the crowd is anti-capitalism and anti-war....OF COURSE! It is their main beef!
We are not against capitalism (per se), but it's the DE-REGULATION of "capitalism", and all of those attending ills...and wars of pure agression that have helped to bankrupt our country and keep everyone occupied while the politicians, corporation and bankers loot the country!

I'll never bank with a national bank.

I've done business with a local bank for almost 20 years. They supply me with all of my banking needs.

One survey of 200 "occupiers" can be found here.

As for their sanity, I've seen an awful lot of video interviews and writings. Maybe they're not insane, but their brains aren't getting much of a workout.

Please explain your demographic analysis of the Occupiers. I agree that when the weather gets bad they'll leave. They aren't insane. And, they were out there. They are more than the baloney you and I generate.

And it was Palin who claimed "What do you read" was an ambush question. Couric was unreasonable, trapping her. The historic response to any poll is that the question was unfair or loaded.

There will be no tanks,
despite the continued media romanticizing of a bunch of bored, mostly well-off kids who have no place better to go. They'll get tired when it gets too uncomfortable, and most of them will go home.

Even the idea of comparing this bong party to what happened in Tienamen indicates considerable intellectual bankruptcy.

As for polls, here's the Time Magazine one that got so much play. Note the wording of the questions:

Q8. On another issue, is your opinion of the Tea Party movement very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable, very unfavorable, or don’t you know enough about the Tea Party to have an opinion?

Q11. In the past few days, a group of protestors has been gathering on Wall Street in New York City and some other cities to protest policies which they say favor the rich, the government’s bank bailout, and the influence of money in our political system. Is your opinion of these protests very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable, very unfavorable, or don’t you know enough about the protests to have an opinion?

As you can see, one of the questions has been somewhat pre-cooked to encourage a particular response from someone unfamiliar with the movements.

A more balanced set of questions and results from Gallup.

Note the large percentage of people who don't really pay much attention to either of them.

TB, you have learned much from your leaders. After every insurgent victory Cheney would say that it was the last gasp of a failed effort. The enemy would pound the crap out of some allied units and it would be described as the "last throes", a belief he still holds 5 years later. There is a type of person who simply cannot admit they are wrong.

So Cheney saying it made it true.

Some thoughts on the Occupiers.

The Occupiers are a weak, non-threatening objection to the looting having been conducted by the banks and government. They have been remarkably well organized, peaceful, long-lasting, wide-spread and well accepted by the American public. I'm rather awed - I would not have thought it possible. More people approve of them than the Tea Party.

I see them as a solid base from which more effective protests can be organized in the future. At some point there will be establishment tanks with gun barrels leveled at them. By then it will be the American people at whom the guns are pointing.

Funny how many Americans condemned the Chinese for their treatment of the folks in Tienamen Square.
