Why taxing the wealthy cannot make up for the costs of eliminating the middle class. October 28, 2011 8:50 pm bowser

Every middle class job shipped overseas saves some company money.  That saved money is returned to top management and shareholders, with a disproportionate amount accruing to the upper 1%.

The cost to the country is that a taxpayer and a paying consumer is lost.  Homes are not affordable, social services must be provided, education cannot be continued, and so on and so on.  Multiply that by 20 million.

This is the real “trickle down” economics.  What trickles down is the destruction of the middle class and with it the country.

The reason taxes on the ultra-wealthy won’t make up the difference is that they get only about 10% of what they are costing the country.  It’s like killing the goose which laid the golden eggs for about 10% of the eggs.  And then asking the killers to make up the 90%.

Now, I suspect those percentages are low.  I pulled the numbers out of my butt.   I was describing a concept.

Word of the Day:  Concept  Noun:

  1. An abstract idea; a general notion.
  2. A plan or intention; a conception.
