Writers learn to know themselves by what they see and recognize in others. It is like a set of mirrors reflecting reality back to us and sometimes the mirror is cracked.

(Now, Jody will come along here and note that this cracks her up. Beat ya to it! ;)

Kick the pram down the stairs (preferably without the baby in it), put up sticky paper to catch the bees, so what else is new about being broke? Just have another cup of Joe or a shot of tequila and tell the damned Poltergeist he's either gotta help you write or get the hell out. He won't have a leg to stand on if he tries to argue.

In a serious vein, I believe writers have to know and acknowledge all sides of themselves, the dark side as well as that we show the world.

"I dreamed I had a child, and even in the dream I saw it was my life, and it was an idiot and I ran away. But it always crept onto my lap again, clutched at my clothes. Until I thought if I could kiss it, whatever in it was my own, I could sleep. And I bent to it's broken face, and it was horrible . . . but I kissed it. I think one must finally take one's life in one's arms, Quentin."

Arthur Miller, "After the Fall", p. 22

I believe folks who cannot admit they are wrong, who cannot acknowledge their dark side, can be excellent wordsmiths and will always stay in the shallow waters.

One mans' opinion.
