Never mind. It's back and I added something else.

My understanding of the space board is that it is reserved for serious stuff but a little on topic humor was never seen as a bad thing. Humor should NEVER be considered a bad thing.

How come I always miss everything interesting? Can't you guys keep it up long enough for me to see it first?

Ummmm, looking back, maybe I should rephrase that. Aww, to hell with it.

Jody, get me out of this! :)

On my limited behalf I think it was the perfect parody, so ridiculous it could not be taken seriously. And yet both sides could take offence.

The people in favor of diamonds, or whatever, from any source could be angry at the anti-mining message.

The people against blood diamonds, etc., could be angry at the humor at the expense of their efforts.

Clearly mining man-made elements with a half-life of 26 minutes or less is a losing proposition. I can't help but think that I purchased Mad magazines with similar material.

But then Mad offended some people too, I realize.

I frankly thought it was so silly it could not possibly be misinterpreted and therefore didn't see it rising to any conceivable level. So much for my discernment.

Hindsight.
The Space Board of old always had room for humor or a bit of politics, especially when it came to NASA politics, etc. For me, it was when the politics took the thread way off a space/science topic that I'd send the thread to another board or take some other moderating action. RL didn't leave much wiggle room as Space Science Moderator yet created some of the greatest parodies that board has ever seen. Nick, Raoul, and me, as moderators of the board, cut a fair bight o' slack on humor, none whatsoever on anomalism or off-topic politics.

I read bowser's comment and felt it didn't rise to the activation energy required for me to step it and do anything about it.

However, while I still consider myself as one of the moderators of the Space Science Board, in truth all of you are moderators. Your editor powers are the same as mine. Even in the days of yore, members like you would alert moderators to assess errant posts.

This time, you alerted the board that the post was out of line. Bowser removed it himself (and the sub-thread too) and TB helped straighten it all out.

With comments, it is best to edit them as opposed to delete them. This keeps the structure of the thread intact. Be sure to clearly note the edit so readers understand. With threads, just change its catagory to another board.

I've been so damn busy lately, all the time I have for this place is sticking my head in the door and smelling for smoke. But I don't worry about my janitorial duties as I once did. Y'all know where the mops are and how to use them.

Not to worry. Seems to happen. I've generated a bit of a reaction from folks who regard what is to me a moderate, middle-of-the-road political stance as obnoxiously left-wing.

A couple of folks do not regard things I think are clearly funny as such, and take offense. I don't think it's a sense of humor sort of thing.

I like to think I'm just like TB, only not lovable, exactly like a cross between Don Rickles and Rodney Dangerfield, only they are funny. Identical to ER if he had an edge, but I'm not as smart. Or organized. Or educated. But otherwise the same, if only I weren't snotty.

On my part I pledge to keep my posts on Space pure and relevant, unsullied by my attempts at humor or political commentary. Even purer than my normal posts, which are pure, pure as the driven slush. That pure.
