Because in an perfect vacuum where this takes place there is no interference at all, the quanta of energy as far as the plank constant is concerned is nothing but a wave of probability in this natural state. But to observe it you have to send out another wave to bounce off it and receive it again in a measurable way, and to measure its "position" thus forcing it to chose a position and continue in a straight line thus explain the 2 different patterns when there is an observation of the wave or not. And in a natural state (the universe) where everything is acting on everything with space-time/gravity, photons in all directions, electrons bouncing around all introduces forcing this multidimensional wave to further and further chose a specific path leading towards matter. All the different forces, particles, and perhaps the dimensions themselves are nothing more than result of waves interacting. Perhaps mass is nothing more than the total interference of a body (sounds like entropy to me) in a resonate frequency of probability. That's why energy and mass are interchangeable with E=MC^2 same shit. We are all wave functions, technically we are a type of energy based life if you think about it.
