How it's done:

Start at the first post in a thread, and then read through them in chronological order.

This is easier with short threads, but do what you can.

TB, another appeal for intellectual honesty. You are the only person I've seen characterize these people as unemployed and helpless. I mentioned a millionaire friend of mine who marched, for instance. I've mentioned that the homeless folks who comprise 70% of some camps are NOT part of the OWS movement.

Most of the folks who are OWSers identify themselves as Independent. (I could find the reference, but it's not worth it. It's written in Plain English.) Where do you get "Democrat" out of that?

Geez.

I think the 2010 election was a fluke. Now that the American people have actually seen the Teabaggers when they get power, I don't think they will give them another chance; especially not with the septic crop of Presidential candidates currently being groomed.

In a way, it's sad. I am a Liberal, but I will be the first to admit there is much we can learn from the Right, and we need a counter to the excesses and undiscipline of the Left. But this obsession with fascism is going to destroy the GOP. And I don't think that would be a good thing at all.

They can stay in the shower right through the next election. Which may not turn out quite as they think. Not sure but there may be some surprises around the corner. Just a feeling.

The point, based on the survey,

is that these aren't the unemployed and helpless people that others on the thread are projecting on them.

A lot of people aren't even going by appearances. They have an idea of what sort of people they want the OWS folks to be, and just say that this is who they are, regardless. Note that Newt made the same mistake.

And don't lose track. This is not a "movement." This is a political weapon, and (as I point out elsewhere) it backfired on the Democrats. In a month you won't even see these people on the back pages of national news outlets.

It is part of the Conservative program to demonize and otherwise malign the unemployed. After all if you are suffering from unemployment, it is because you are stupid, lazy, evil, or have bad hygiene, right? It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the business community itself, now could it? And after all, as they love to point out, government doesn't create jobs, business does. The job creators reserve all the credit for every person they hire but not one atom of blame for any one they don't.

What I find amusing is the conservatives who are unemployed themselves, and sponging off their relatives. I wonder if taking a bath would help them? Maybe they can just blame their hard times on the Socialist Media Conspiracy.

And BTW, your comment in another post about the Right's fear of the Occupy movement is right on target. This fear and loathing is way out of proportion to the actual political effects of that movement, or how it might conceivably affect the public debate.

In my opinion, OWS will have even less influence on public discourse than the Tea Party did, (unless, of course, the pepper spraying continues). The constant, desperate, bitter and shrill campaign against OWS, including the recently revealed flurry of lobbyists memos on how to combat it, tells us much more about the targets of the movement than it does about the occupiers themselves. You're right, they ARE scared shitless.

Maybe they should just take a hot shower and go to bed.

What's your point

"These people have laptops, and resources. The guy on the police car was wearing good clothes and Nikes."

You're making assumptions bases on appearance. I'll make mine.

They aren't struggling to make mortgage payments. They live at home with their parents or with roommates. They don't wake up in the night worrying about loosing what they've built for their family.

So 'those people' shouldn't be wearing nice tennis shoes- "they're are not poor enough to be complaining".

Sorry but you are just as 'out of touch' as Gingrich.

Goes to prove Gingrich doesn't know what the hell he is talking about. The more I read about him, the more I dislike him. He was polarizing while in Congress, he'd be more so as President. That's just what we need, MORE polarization.

An actual survey of some OWS'ers

Here.

The vast majority of demonstrators are actually employed, and the proportion of protesters unemployed (15%) is within single digits of the national unemployment rate (9.1%).

These people have laptops, and resources. The guy crapping on the police car was wearing good clothes and Nikes.
