America has a lot to be proud of in this respect. Anti-Trust laws, Child Labor Laws, the 8 hour workday and 40 hour work week, Unions and the right to stike, Women's Suffrage, the Civil Rights Movement, and Equal Rights for Women. Now this.

Every one of these has been a struggle, and bitterly opposed by reactionary forces who insisted the end of the world was at hand if reforms were ever adopted. They were wrong, not just about the end of the world part, but about the morality itself. They always sounded so convinced, so righteous, so reasonable. But they were always so wrong.

Thanks for posting that. In my experience people were opposed to homosexuality in the abstract. If they didn't know a man was homosexual it didn't matter, obviously. And if they knew the man and he turned out to be homosexual, well, they already knew him and it didn't matter. In close quarters it can come out when a wallet falls open or letter is left open.

And a lot depends upon the leadership. When their attitudes are are known folks go along with them.
