What's really funny is that before "Bush's Axis of Evil" speech, Iran was rapidly becoming a co-conspirator to the US, if not an actual ally, helping us fight Al-Quaeda by denying them sanctuary and providing us with intelligence. Militant Sunni Arabs were not very popular in Shiite Persia.

Their allies, the Syrians, even tortured some prisoners for us, which would never have happened without Iranian blessing.

We are now paying the price, not only for the treacherous coup against Mossadegh that installed the Shah in power, but for eliminating the only Arab state in the Middle East capable of providing a counter to
Iran, the Iraquis.

So your news is a little late, we've been fighting a covert war with Iran for years, with cyber, sabotage, diplomatic and other means. I'm not surprised they are desperate to get their own bomb, or making deals with the Russians and Chinese. Its the only way they can guarantee they don't get "freedom" handed to them (along with their ass) on a silver platter, just like the Iraquis.

However, knowing all this does NOT mean they are nice guys, or that they aren't crazier than bedbugs, or that we should just let them have their own nukes. The key to understanding geopolitics is to remember that just because they aren't saints doesn't mean we are, and vice-versa.

Damn, we will be paying for that Texan's meddling in the Middle East for another generation.

Can you imagine the US response if Iran did the same? The US has been busy killing Iranian scientists, causing explosions and attacking Iran with computer viruses. Israel and Britain are the chief US assistants in this mischief.

I think Iran's response has been quite muted, and I can see why nuclear weapons are their only guarantee against annihilation by those three countries.

Iran has suffered greatly at the hands of the US, from the overthrow of a democratically elected leader, the installation of the Shah, and sanctions since them at the urging of Israel.

"George W Bush 'raised $400 million for action against Iran'."
"The White House has been reported to have secretly stepped up covert operations inside Iran with the aim of destablising its leadership."

<p>I think we all know by now which side's "shock troops" are doing the most political damage.</p>

Or haven't you noticed that the Democrats and the media are now going "<em>what</em> Occupy movement?"

I also know where I can find the most examples of thuggery, crime, rape, anti-Semitism, raw bloody stupidity, and the blatant display of all the stuff the media broke their backs trying to find in the Tea Party back in 2010.

I'm still impressed at the way you've re-engineered the word "fascism" to mean a desire to be free of an overly-powerful and oppressive centralized authority. For your next trick, you might want to redefine "virgin" as someone who has sex twenty times a week.

D'Souza's book was thoroughly debunked months ago. Pointing a citation to it don't make it so.

You will note no one, not even on the Right, not even Gingrich, has brought it up lately.

And no, Conservatives are not necessarily Neanderthals, however, their phony populist rabble-rousing machine has been systematically courting them, passing themselves off as the honest, working class Right so valiantly struggling against all those rich limousine liberals and elitist country club socialists.

One of the major crimes of the American Right has been to deliberately woo the fascist, fundamentalist, racist, nativist underbelly of American society and enlist them as its shock troops.

They WILL turn on you, you know?

<p>P.S.</p>

"I don't have to answer that question" is another way of dealing with embarrassing questions. I don't think Cain has done this -- it's not a useful technique for politicians.

<a href="http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2010/0927/politics-socialism-capitalism-private-enterprises-obama-business-problem_print.html" rel="nofollow">This</a> is where Gingrich got that idea. Gingrich even credited the author back in 2010.

It is indeed the nature of opinion that it cannot be proven. It is intellectually effortless, requiring not only no proof, but no thought, no internal consistency, no scholarship, no reason. The attractiveness of opinions is that they're immune to argument. Nothing wrong with opinions, in and of themselves, but they're a hell of a way to make important decisions.

Incidentally, the liberal assumption that their opposition is a load of "Neanderthals" is a dangerous one, especially when the twin engines that power their own party are stupidity and ignorance.

Hopefully, this move by Iran is just a maneuver to distract the world from the mess their bosom buddies the Syrians have gotten themselves into.

EDITED: I don't have to answer your questions, Tom. And I don't need to justify my opinions. However...

A few months back, when Huckabee was spouting off about how Obama had learned to "hate America" from his Kenyan father, Gingrich piped in about how the only way you could really understand Obama was by taking into account the anti-British and anti-imperialist views he had picked up from his father in Kenya. Obama was a Mau-mau.

Now I can understand that kind of puerile nonsense from a drooling imbecile like Huckabee or Trump, or the rest of that crowd at Fox. But Gingrich is an intelligent man, he knew better. He knew perfectly well Obama barely knew his father and had never been to Kenya, much less been raised there. He just didn't talk without thinking, or repeat a canned Conservative meme or myth automatically--he KNEW he was lying. He knew that was exactly what his Neanderthal audience wanted to hear. And he served it right up to them.

That Gingrich is an unprincipled, opportunistic and divisive figure is my opinion, and I'm convinced of it. I am not alone in this opinion, many of his fellow Republicans and Conservatives loathe him for the very same reason. It is the nature of opinion that it cannot be proven, especially to those determined not to accept it. If that's not good enough for you, then look it up.
