Only a small minority would support absorbing small losses of lives in a terrorist attacks to enable more personal freedom, or refusing health care to those (who could afford it) without insurance, or getting rid of most or all of the federal bureaucratic agencies or allowing big businesses to fail at the cost of a million jobs. Libertarianism isn’t considered compassionate or fair by our society because our society no longer understands that liberty is the only strategic path to freedom and happiness and would rather be taken care of. I’ve accepted those facts and have fallen back to Milton Friedman’s wisdom: “People have a great misconception in this way, they think the way they solve things is by electing the right people. Its nice to elect the right people, but that isn’t the way you solve them. The way you solve things is by making it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right things!”
