You don't see the government taking control as a threat?

God knows Insurance in and of itself is a racket...but how do you feel the government wouldn't slowly erode our freedoms also?
...and being the government...Our presidents and congress have violated the constitution over and over by implementing SS, Medicare/aid, welfare, unemployment etc.....if we let the states be the laboratories of experimentation, people would move where it worked best...and I will guarantee you that you wouldn't have hard working people moving to socialist states. People never moved to the Soviet Union. On medicare/health care being "that simple". Medicare costs $14K/person. Government health care will never be cheap.....however, it is cheap on one thing...payments......it pays less than what most doctors are willing to take and that is why only 1/3 of doctors take medicare. As well, the government itself(state and fed) admits that fully 1/3(>$200B) is institutionalized fraud. And we want to expand it by double the number of people? The only way to save it and SS and any other program(assuming we should have them) is to privatize them.

NHS is the UK's national healthcare. It is one of many national healthcare systems that exists in every major nation except ours.

Medicare is a government health insurance program. It pays much less than private insurance companies. If it was expanded to cover all Americans, there would be higher taxes but no need for Americans to buy private health insurance.

This would also stop skyrocketing medical costs, which is the one thing that could really threaten America's long term economy. Medicare pays less than private insurance because of its economy of scale. Were it the only single payer, it could dictate prices (within reason) because it would be a monopsony, which has the same market control power as a monopoly.

It IS truly the case, and the answer is because many, like yourself, are unaware of it.

If that is truly the case then why is it not more widely embraced?

You are ALREADY paying for every citizen to have healthcare. For many it is simply emergency room care when cost is the highest it can be.

The thousand dollars a month you are paying would be two or three hundred a month in taxes in a single payer system. That's a lot of money back in your pocket.

It is not my choice to provide healthcare to all our citizens because I am not willing to pay for it. Does the money just fall out of thin air to pay for healthcare?

My husband is retiring in three weeks...we will be paying a thousand dollars a month for healthcare. That is enough.

As always, it portrays a false choice. Somehow, providing healthcare to all our citizens will take away out freedom. It truly is a ridiculous argument.

Yes we are individuals who need to live free and responsible. We are also citizens of the nation we live in and have a social contract with our society. If we collectively as citizens of this nation decide to create a healthcare system for all paid for entirely through taxes, how does that harm our right to life liberty and happiness? The world is full of advanced nations with national healthcare which are undeniably free societies.
