I should have included something to that effect.

Sandusky is indeed a homosexual and he is a pedophile and probably should also be designated a rapist as well.

He is what he is and that is no mystery to me. I have seen it all before.

The mystery is how a man like Paterno allowed the bastard to remain on his staff after an eye witness account of him abusing a 17 year old boy.

Good point that shouldn't be lost. Pedophilia is pedophilia regardless of the gender of attraction.

Yet gender does matter, and not in a good way: Our culture has historically made light of boys being molested. For as long as I can remember, the term "altar boy" had smirking connotations. And there are the jokes about Greek men and boys, and the bawdy version of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" going on about the "men on boys". I don't know of any equivalent humor directed at girls being molested, and I think most people would be horrified to hear it. We're a bit callous when it comes to protecting boys, I think, and that was no doubt a contributing factor in creating the preconditions for the latest scandal.

Name an industry that isn't. It is the way of all things.

...and so it goes. We are not made to evolve in the mental, emotional, spiritual sense.

The percentage of homosexuals in the population has probably never changed much throughout history, neither has that of pedophiles and pederasts. We've had these problems with the boy scouts, the Catholic Church, and in lots of other places.

The specific problem here is football. No, there is nothing wrong with the game itself, its the football industry as it exists in our colleges that is to blame. Its a huge money-making machine that feeds off (supposedly) unpaid athletes, and supports and exploits a huge pyramid of coaches, TV contracts, administrators, boosters, alumnae, organizations, journalists, bureaucrats and other hangers-on and camp followers, not to mention the fans and the collateral industries, like concessionaires and others. There is a mountain of careers and reputations and fortunes based on this unholy alliance, all sanctified under the banners of "education" and "youth" and it has a massive inertia, one not likely to be overcome by one alleged minor crime. People just look the other way and hope it will go away. Too much is at stake and no one wants to rock the boat. Just like in the RC church.

A couple of good friends of mine in Pittsburgh were Penn State grads, and one of my old professors was there. I often drove to State College to visit him. So I've seen first hand the grip football has on that town and the university. College football is all about money, which means its all about corruption, not necessarily sexual, but usually financial and academic, or about gambling and lucrative media contracts, all based on the labor and work and talent of unpaid youngsters. Its essentailly a gladitorial industry.
