An update on Obama's 60 Minutes interview:

CBS has the entire interview on their website, unedited, with transcript available.

While a damaging part of the interview did not make the air, it's obvious that the news program is not doing anything to "protect" Obama or to hide information, which I implied in my first comment.

A general rule of thumb I have for when I remember something is if I can't find ANY reference to it on the internet after a hard search, it was probably never anywhere but in my own head in the first place.

Even the looniest public ideas or theories have enough advocates out there to show up in abundance on the net.

As an example, a search for "Flight 800," "missile," and "eyewitness" pulls up over 90,000 hits, including numerous news interviews of those eyewitnesses. Whether the missile theory is accurate or not, your memory of eyewitness interviews is on much firmer ground.

I suppose I could be crazy. I cannot find any reference to that episode while googling "Limbaugh assassination Obama" which clears him and by reference you. Knowing I read those comments, knowing I commented on them but not being able to find them leaves me with some sort of cognitive dissonance.

Another, almost identical matter was when that 747 crashed near Long Island. There was a NY Air National Guard unit on maneuvers near that airliner. I KNOW I saw 2 people interviewed who said they saw a rocket from a jet fighter streak toward that 747 and then saw the 747 explode and disintegrate.

Next I saw a fellow interviewed who said he was a friend of another witness. He told the interviewer that his friend was told by the FBI to shut up or go to jail for a long, long time. The witness asked the friend to then tell what the witness saw.

And that's the last I saw on that. But it was national network TV, someone else must have seen it, but I'll be damned if I've ever heard or seen anything about it since.

Puzzling.

You want to debate that? He could have added that you agreed with Limbaugh when Limbaugh proposed killing him would be a good thing.

Whoops! Not quite accurate, I'm afraid. What Obama really said does not include anything like that.

"I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president - with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln - just in terms of what we've gotten done in modern history."

You do have a point there. It's one of the few you've ever made successfully to me.

But you also know all interviews are edited, and sometimes what the interviewer cuts out is done because of his bias, or because he is sympathetic to his subject. After all, it is really unfair to take advantage of the kind of verbal misstatement anybody is likely to make, as an aha! or gotcha! moment. Isn't that why conservative candidates proudly declare they rarely give
interviews except to Fox, or other friendly outfits. They self-righteously claim the MSM misrepresents their thoughts, or quotes them out of context, or as both Palin and Gingrich have actually said, quoted them verbatim! And I do know that some things are edited out of those friendly interviews, too. Comparisons of live recordings and archive video often show it.

I once read the Playboy interview of the head of the Klu Klux Klan. Playboy announced that they were going to publish the interview verbatim, making no corrections for grammar or minor factual errors (as I presume they do for everyone else, transcriptions of speech often read awkwardly), presumably to show what an ignorant and profoundly stupid man this racist was. They also felt the need to parenthetically comment on every outrageous remark the interviewee uttered, rather than let the reader evaluate it himself.

I've done journalistic interviews myself and have taken the liberty of editing also, even though my interviewee was quite articulate. And when he made what I felt was several very controversial statements, I asked him if that was "on the record", and gave him a chance to reconsider.

Well, the KKK guy was a profoundly ignorant and vicious man, but I felt that it was unfair to treat him that way in the interview.

Tom its impossible not to pull your chain.

Do you really think its possible for me to present documentary evidence that you're wrong? Do you seriously think you can present documentary evidence that you're right? These are value judgements, they are political opinions. They cannot be proven.

All I know is that a lot of peole believe the way I do, and I know I'm not a fool.

I'm not saying things I don't believe just to push your buttons.
I do think Obama is doing a good job, considering the circumstances. And I do believe he could do better if he wasn't being deliberately sabotaged by his political enemies.

Why should anything you say suddenly make me change my mind?

Some politicians can ask 60 Minutes to "remove" something from interviews.
 Some can't.

If 60 Minutes did it on their own to protect him, that's even worse.
