Et tu, Boehner?

Well, at least, the Dems signed their little poison pen letter. But its not his enemies he need worry about. It's his friends.

I think Mr Boehner was set up. He was given the task of charging up Capitol Hill and and getting a deal, and then when he went out on a limb and got it, the limb was sawed off behind him. His own people cut him off, did not back him up, left him stranded and alone, surrounded by the enemy, and abandoned by his friends. I think he was deliberately stabbed in the back. He was betrayed.

Not only did the President and the Democratic Senators and Congressmen pound on him, as you would expect, but his own party leaders attacked the very strategy he had used to get their way. Even Mr McConnel, his erstwhile ally in the Senate, abandoned him, making him look like a fool. The major voices in the Republican establishment and punditerati suddenly criticized him for the debacle on this last vote, even the Wall Street Journal bad-mouthed him. I feel sorry for the man. I think he's being edged out of the way. He was bushwacked, but I have no idea by whom.

There is a power struggle going on in the GOP, between the Ancien Régime and the young Turks, the Power Establishment and the Tea Party. I think it is manifesting itself in other ways, too; see my post above, "Enemy Action?" I can't wait for the Convention in Tampa this August. I have a feeling that is where it will all work out.
