Everything lined up newest first, and I had the full complement of editing tools. The only problem was the first comment after an initial post, which I had to do from the main page, but I would often put a “placeholder” in then access it on the comment board to make it pretty.

Now the “reply” switch on the comment dashboard is gone. I suppose you can’t put that back without putting the “edit” function back?

How it works: Each night at 4am Pacific, the server runs a process that checks for new posts in the subscription period, and if it finds ‘em, it sends out an email to subscribers. You can get a digest covering the previous calendar day, previous week, or previous month. Moderators can also get notices for each post, sent out on a ten-minute cycle.

Interesting observation about the appearance. At first it made the hairs on my neck stand up, because we had so much trouble with DamnTikiWiki. A decade ago we started out with a light text on black background, and that’s been part of the Zone’s identity ever since. How would we define “anomalism”? Oh lord VRB, there is such a tempestuous history behind that innocent question! That very question has been the cause of more argument and anger than any other in the history of the HabitableZone, and many of those who’ve left would tell you it’s because they didn’t like my answer.

Frankly, I’m not up for that discussion right now. But I’m sure that if you post the question, you can reopen that venerable discussion and others will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about “anomalism”.

I started doing the research yesterday for a comprehensive answer to the many problems with comments: Using full posts for replies instead of WordPress’s lightweight little comments. That’d give you not only a real subject line, but the whole panoply of goodies like the WYSIWYG editor and media library.

I’d keep comments as comments, suggesting a convention by definition: Replies (posts) are on-topic, comments are “meta” notes about the discussion. (I was struck by the distinction recently, seeing Rob and Jody talking about the conversation going on around them; and I realized that conversations about the conversations are an important social ritual at the Zone.)

I will miss being able to scan all the posts and replies in their entirety. It saved a lot of time.

Well, I see we can make our way to the dashboard and see the posts but the replies are not available. Surely you could turn them on and give us a better link to the dashboard, instead of backing into it

That would probably be of interest to my Goldilock’s Gazette – at least it would be before college. I suppose after my next Gazette post ,someone else will have to carry on.

The zone is starting to heavily resemble DamnTikiWiki’s look for me, which I like – makes it more familiar and easy to use. I’m also glad the intro page has been updated. to resemble the old one as well. All we’re missing is the forum’s tab at the top of the page.

Speaking of the intro page, how exactly would we define anomalism?

Yet I sense in “DFWI” that I’m damned with feint praise. Would you really rather I didn’t F with the site? Finding the life of a guinea pig beginning to wear?
