I think what everyone is looking for is a method of seeing what's newest. Access to the comment page works for that for the most part, at least for me. If the old "bump the modified threads" trick can be made to work, that would be good, but I suspect that's a bit tricky. The present schema gives "Senior Posters" wide powers to view the site, and to change some parts of it, but posters don't need to be able to muck about with each others' posts. If you're looking for a list of recent posts site-wide, there's a widget for that. The new author pages use one to list most-recent blog posts, and it'd be easy enough to configure one to list all posts, and stick it in the right column. Can we get a consensus of interest? Seems like a lot of the features people miss were provided by DamnTikiWiki. The variety of doodads was an important consideration when I chose it, but I didn't count on the software simply sucking so badly. And let's face it, one of the reasons it sucked was its kitchen-sink-is-too-modest obsession with features. With WordPress we swung to the opposite extreme, with a very austere site at first, but I think the right way to go (in hindsight) is to start plain and then add the gadgets we really want. And to make sure things work that didn't work too well before. Like search. That's my next project today.
