Hey Bowser, your thoughts about God are a lot different than mine. Your question of, “(One is left to wonder if He made Man in His image, does God live on another Earth somewhere, or what? How does that work?)” is something I see quite differently.

First of all, the word God or YHWH aka Yahweh, Allah, etc. represents the “creator” of the trinity of space, mass, and energy.
Man having also the ability to “create“, then is “like” God in that sense. (Naturally that includes the female of the species also.)

Since we have “dominion” over everything, are we not free to do anything we want, even to the point of ignoring the commandments/ rules/ restrictions/ suggestions or any limitations to our freedom.
I take the word “dominion” as meaning that the creator left everything to us to do as we please. Or to put it another way: After the space, mass, and energy came into existence and mankind developed to a stage where he could manipulate that trinity, then he could develop his knowledge and his wisdom to any extent that he desires.

To use a more modern vernacular, He said: Here, I made this for you, you have the ability to create, now do whatever you want with it.

At least that is how I see it.

They are very, very versatile, much like neutrinos. Remember the Inquisition? Where the Roman Catholic Church was indistinguishable from Satan? Well, they will just turn against other churches as falling short of the proper worship of God.

"Sin" is a moving target, and relative. Remember when godless communism ceased to be an economic threat to the US? Well, homosexuals and abortion stepped in to fill the treasuries. I have every confidence in the abilities of the Billy Grahams, Pat Robertsons, the Benny Hinns of the world to run their sprograms no matter what. After all, their organizations are much like a car - doesn't matter what the passenger is.

Frankly, I'm not smart enough to follow your train of thought.

Going back a ways, the "Universe" was defined as all that's physical.

"God" is defined as a non-physical entity, spiritual, created by Man to meet his needs.

As far as predictability is concerned, it's a limited, short-term matter based upon personality traits and past behavior. I should not have introduced the matter as I did not mean some universal predictability, simply about how people make choices in the very, very short term.

Predictability is in the religion Man creates to explain God. Collectivism.

If every man and woman defined God according to our individual reality and experiences then predictability is an illusion.

Exactly. It's human nature. As an example, consider the current state of affairs in the US. The people have decided to trust their security to the State rather than retain their freedoms.

We seem to choose that every time. The "Patriot Act", the TSA, NSA snooping on everyone's communications, screenings everywhere, all are justified in the name of security.

And impinge upon freedom.

And most people think it's worth it. They may be right, but it demonstrates the point.

To add to the point, the more fervent a person is in their belief in God, the more fervent they are about the government ensuring their security. Fundamental Christians are extremely anxious
.
Oddly, I haven't seen Libertarians bitch about any of these intrusions.

We discussed that above. That is exactly what Man has done, define "God" in whatever way meets Man's needs.

However, Science has impinged upon freewill to an extreme degree. It turns out that our personalities are determined genetically to some degree as are traits such as homosexuality and chemical dependency.

A lot of experience with people has led me to believe we have the illusion of freewill, while in practice most of us are more or less predictable, usually more. And the more predictable people are the more invested we are in the idea of our freewill. I may well be wrong, but in practice it works for me.

Consider this: I am God. You are God. We are God.

We make God whatever we choose.
Freewill.

At first blush that sounds just fine. There may be more to the matter, however.

What is "God"? A manifestation of Man's imagination who lives in the spiritual dimension designed to relieve anxiety and give each Man meaning by creating a being with powers greater than Man's own..

What is the Universe? All that is physical.

I don't know how one would make the transition between the two unless "God" were redefined somehow.

Also, "God" has to be "spiritual" and interact with Man's "spiritual" nature, it must be something with which Man can relate one-to-one on a personal level, knowing God has taken in interest in him. I know some people will claim the Universe does that for them. They may be right, but upon watching them over time they are shams, attempting to be spiritually superior, an oxymoron.

I agree with you ER...and as of late I have come to appreciate even *more*, the intricacies of the Universe, as my son's shared epiphanies have validated and further established mine. I believe we are all born with every answer to every question ever asked. Our influence, the questions, the answers, have ripple effects in ways we will never know.
I agree that the universe is a non partisan observer. Because of this, I actually have a hard time engaging in the here and now minutia.
God...I love the Universe. :)
