It's not intermittent for me. EVERY time I do an edit, I can't see it in the finished post until after I log off and then log back on.

<p>Couple of things...</p>

ER's observation seems to verify the behavior I'd expect out of the system: Your edits actually did "take", but are not being displayed right away. Though I think his remedy of logging out and back is a bit extreme and may be a bit of magical thinking, if you'll forgive me, ER. It may be a roundabout way of getting the same effect as clearing your browser cache, which doesn't require logging out.

We need to pin this down a little better. Next time the displayed text doesn't match the edits, it'd help to go back to the editor and check out the revision list down at the bottom. It should correctly show the evolution of the post over time as people edit it. This post, for example, shows a series of edits by you, and one by Frank, and possibly the autosave by me while I was looking at it.

Another thing we can check is to compare the text when it's rendered through two different systems. The system you usually use involves script asking the server for the text and flowing it into the page. But there's another, little-used system that'll generate a whole HTML page: Right-click on the subject line and open in a new tab/window, bypassing the script. Let's see if the text is different there.

If one of my conjectures is correct, the HTML page will be up-to-date, telling me that I need to put a random number on the URL used by the other method (script), so that the text will never be cached by the browser.

I'm sure there's a fix, I just have to determine where to put it.

Yeah, I do a lot of tweaking myself, but I try to keep major tweaks inside a certain time envelope of several minutes after the first post.

After that, I feel obliged to add a new comment, or call out the edit somehow.

This doesn't apply to typos, which I correct whenever I see them.

The problem is intermittent. Don't know what triggers it.

I noticed the same problem myself, but its not as bad as you think. You do an edit and it doesn't take. What you have to do is complete your edit, install it, LOG OFF, then log back on again. Your edit will now be there.

Apparently, a successful edit takes, but it does not reveal itself until you log on anew. This is particularly annoying if you have a long post requiring lots of edits that you can't do on the first pass, and you have to continuously log on and off to get them all fixed. Invariably, you find errors every time you read the post anew, requiring having to go through the log on, write, read, edit, log off, log on, read, cycle over and over again.

If you're like me, typos don't become evident, or bright ideas arise to replace awkward phrasing, unless you are reading the post in the same format your reader will be seeing it.

Hmmm, I edited an original post an it worked fine.

I am editing this to correct a typo above (misspelled edit on purpose)

I tried an edit just clicking on close and refresh and omitting the update comment click, it didn't take, here or the black screen so I guess that's not your problem.

I'll watch for it in the future, might be an intermittent thing.
