I'll still fix mistakes on comments, which don't seem to "bump" anything, but will be more cautious about main posts.

Not a good habit, in my opinion.

To begin, spelling words correctly has never been my strong suit. Part of it is how I read because I see words as parts of sentences, not letters as part of words. It's a matter of scale. Or I'm just lazy.

Back on the Zone That Was, there was no edit feature. What you wrote was what you got. There was a preview function to help with the formating of HTML. IF you could look back on on those days, you'd see many posts that were "Correction" posts, even down to simple typos. While I like being able to edit posts, I have to admit there was a virtue to getting it right the first time 'round, a practice I should strive for in any public discourse.

Just my bit of advice for the young scholar: go for getting it right the first time. It's good practice, will result in better grades, and make you a better writer. And I agree with Robert, leave the mistakes in the record.

Nothing is broken to need fixing.

The posts are now sorted by "last activity", which is defined as the date/time on which anything happens to the post: publishing or updating it; commenting on it; and editing a comment. If the post changes, it bubbles to the top.

Uh, VRB, I feel I should point out a logical flaw in your post: Correcting the spelling of text after the fact isn't getting it right the first time. It follows from this that one could make a pretty good case for not correcting your spelling so that you preserve past mistakes as a way to measure your improvement. If you retroactively clean up the spelling, it's as if your spelling was always perfect, and just like that tree falling in the forest, you didn't actually improve your spelling. You changed the reality of your spelling instead.

(No points for bringing up James T. Kirk's hack of the Kobayashi Maru Scenario, that's completely different.)

Guilty as charged >_<

I was planning to correct my spelling on most of my previous posts (Always have been trying to get it right the first time - Taylor Mali motivated me to try even more so), but this popped up. Guess we'll either have to wait until this is fixed or my spelling shame will have to be preserved on the web forever. NOOOOO!

Expect more bumps

Our spamming friends have long depended on posting their messages on old threads. When they show up again, expect about a half dozen threads jumping up overnight, and then again for a week or so until the storm passes. I'll try to post a sign while mopping.
