I know you are making a joke, but I actually heard a fundamentalist once say, during a discussion of Biblical translations, that he only read the King James Version because “that was the way God wrote it”.

Tyndale, who was the first to translate the Bible into English from the Original Hebrew and Greek, provided most of the text for the KJV that followed. Tyndale was in deep trouble with both Catholic and Protestant authorities at the time He was tried for heresy, choked, impaled and burnt on a stake in 1536. (Wiki bio).

Incidentally, for a bit of Bible trivia, look up Psalm 46 in the KJV. The 46th word from the front is “shake”. The 46th word from the back (if you skip the ritual “Selah”) is “spear”. You can make of that what you will.

What kind of person or party would regard knowing a second language as a failing or a fault?

That reminds me of the hysteria which took over America at the start of WW II.

If Gingrich is that desperate and if that tactic does appeal to some faction of the Republican Party, God save America. And God save Gingrich, a pitiful, prejudiced, member of a pathetic political group.
