Why won’t Romney show us his tax returns? There is something there he doesn’t want us to see.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not accusing Mitt of doing anything illegal. I’m sure government auditors have already gone through his returns with microscopes, and found nothing. He’s also a very rich man, he has no need to cheat to add to his loot. His returns will also become part of the public record if he is elected President. Sooner or later they will be outed.
Besides, I actually do believe he is an honest man, that he has instructed his accountants and lawyers to scrupulously follow the law while preparing his taxes. I have my problems with Romney, but I am convinced he’s not a criminal.
But there is something in there, something perfectly legal and legitimate, that he doesn’t want the public, particularly his Conservative constituency, to see.
The Romney tax returns are quickly becoming the missing birth certificate of his candidacy.
Newt Gingrich has managed to turn an uncontested accusation of marital infidelity into an insidious media plot to elect Barack Obama, and gotten a hall full of conservative religionists to jump to their feet in approving applause to celebrate it.
I don’t think Mitt can pull it off.
