You can't do it, can you. I've said in the past that you would benefit from some, any, formal education in debate and logic. Sticking to the topic is the first thing you learn. "Your mother wears army boots" is not considered a great reply except by rather juvenile folks. Who hang around other folks, laughing and scratching over their cleverness.

It's important in formal debates as well as discussions with one's wife or husband to discuss one issue at a time. Wandering all over the map is considered worse than bad form, it's considered bad faith and evidence of thinking problems.

There may be online courses you could attempt, TB, and I think that maybe you aren't able to see the issue, let alone have any interest in correcting it.

A shame, because you have potential.

Sorry, Rob.

A "snap" requires someone at the other end who gets it. You can see how that went.

Focus. Track. Concentrate. Find where I trumpeted Democratic claims. I didn't. You can't find it.

Now, a bit of history. Republicans have historically considered themselves the party of "family values" because they ostensibly endorsed a fundamental Christian view of the world.

So far, so good? It's about Republican piety, their historical claim to be the morally and religiously superior party. That's the topic.

Now comes Newt Gingrich as a possible Republican candidate for President. Speaker Gingrich has been typically Republican, castigating others for what he has been doing himself. His sexual life while he has been maintaining a very public attitude of superiority has been sordid at best, and that's just what we know. These things are usually like icebergs, with the tip simply that which is impossible to hide, but we don't have to look below the surface, do we?

Got it? A Republican who may be a Republican candidate for President is a hypocrite, a pious liar, a man driven from Congress by his character.

Effectively giving up the Republican claim to be the religious, moral party, dedicated to the preservation of family values. Gingrich is a sleazeball, not for his screwing around, per se, but for being a pious liar and the effect such screwing around has had on the people in his life. His families.

I added that one might compare Obama's history with Gingrich's. If you want to start a thread on how Obama's attitude toward his marriage contrasts with Gingrich's, you are welcome to do so.

And if you want to wander all over the map as is usual with "yer mother wears army boots" kinds of remarks, I can't stop it. But I don't have to play along with it.

So, exactly when did Democrats start finding "family values" to be a virtue, and infidelity to be a flaw in a politician?

Just trying to keep track.
